Recovery In Action
Where: Barnum Museum, 820 Main Street, Bridgeport
When: Thursday June 28 and Friday June 29
Back from the Brink! The Barnum Museum has been completely closed to the general public since January 2011 and the historic portion closed ever since the June 24, 2010 tornado hit Bridgeport. A unique exhibition called Recovery in Action will be presented on Thursdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the People’s United Bank Gallery starting on April 26. Recovery in Action will allow visitors to gain insight into the complexities of a disaster recovery in a museum setting.
The Museum’s collection of unique artifacts, including Tom Thumb’s miniature carriages and P.T. Barnum’s ornate furniture, will be among the many items on view. But instead of a traditional display, they will be shown in their “evacuation” spaces, where they were out loaded from the historic structure. Visitors will see how the Museum has devised a safe home for its collections while restoration of the historic building is underway. Although it will not be possible to take tours of the damaged building, visitors will often be able to observe a conservator at work on some of the artifacts that were damaged by the tornado, as well as see many items that have already received conservation treatments.
Visitors are asked to enter through the double doors at the back of the historic building, where it is connected to People’s United Bank. The front doors are closed.

July party Brownstone Exploration & Discovery Park
Portland Connecticut
July 7th and 8th
Portland, CT – July 7 and 8, 2012. It’s back but in typical Brownstone style, it’s better. The annual July party continues but this year it’s even easier to grab the gang and head over to Brownstone for the day, evening or weekend.
“When families and friends are deciding where to go, we want Brownstone to be a no brainer” said Sean Hayes General Manager of Brownstone. “That’s why this year we’re offering a coupon for an all you can eat meal plan for $10.99, this is normally $24.95. We have special 2nd shift entry rates (after 4:00) on Saturday for folks that may have other plans during the day but still want to party at Brownstone and try night zip lining, movies and the beach party. And we’ve got discounts for any group of ten or more.”
Old favorites return including the Top Dog Hot Dog eating contest. New features this year include free movie night, all you can eat meal plans for $10.99, volleyball and challenge course competitions and of course the newly introduced 2012 attractions round out an already amazing line up of fun and activity. New attractions include: increased ziplines (there are now 10) including triple racing lines, new beach area with volleyball, 2 new additional overhead wakeboard cables, 70’ cargo net climb, expanded picnic areas, Guts & Glory obstacle course, new walking trails that lead to all activities within the park and a new cliff top picnic area with panoramic views of the park. Prizes will be awarded for the volleyball, Top Dog Hot Dog eating and Guts & Glory competitions.
Also new this year, every Saturday the park will remain open until 10 p.m. Guests can enjoy the free movie under the tent or try the thrill of night time ziplining. The “second shift” entry is now available from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays where guests save 25% on admission fees.
